California’s Maheekats Premiere Reflective New Single ‘The Swans’ Off Forthcoming EP Circle of Dominion

California’s Maheekats premiere new reflective single ‘The Swans’ off forthcoming EP Circle of Dominion. This new track shimmers with a sense of playfulness that invites the listener in to explore perhaps a more deeper and spiritual meaning through its thoughtful lyrics and unstructured song sections. This marks the bands second single to be released off their impending new EP release ‘Circle of Dominion’. ‘The Swans’ comes out on the heals of Maheekats ‘Money Bunny’ (John Fryer Mix) which was released last year.

Clara Hembree explains, “One sunny afternoon, Casey (Craig Camp) and I hopped on our bicycles and rode a few miles to a bird refuge. While we were there exploring the shore like school kids, the sun sank lower and lower in the sky. A golden hue reflected on the shimmering water and huge white swans swam around from one side of the pond to the other. I remember a sense of teenage playfulness along with a deep spiritual experience that brought the lightness of the moment to reality. The poetry of the lyrics, along with the unstructured song sections, is a reflection of the feeling I experienced.”

The Swans

Popcorn clouds and springtime smiles and muddy ponds and crocodiles
And schoolgirl crushes on the playground
Blushing feelings all the way down
They lean forward to watch her running
Sunlight warms their faces as they lean back

The reason Sheila snickered with her burned crackering Jack
The reason Sheila snickered with her burned crackering Jack

A storm was in the air
And it bellowed like a bear

In the middle of the pond were swans
With a sunset and a wake of bronze
I recall
And the oak was like a sentinel
When the finches sang in classical
I recall

Popcorn clouds and springtime smiles and muddy ponds and crocodiles
And schoolgirl crushes on the playground
Blushing feelings all the way down
They lean forward to watch her running
Sunlight warms their faces as they lean back

The reason Sheila snickered with her burned crackering Jack

We ran into the trees
You ran faster than me

‘The Swans’ comes on the heals of Maheekats ‘Money Bunny’ (John Fryer Mix), the first single to be released off their upcoming EP Circle of Dominion. Both singles are now available for purchase on the bands bandcamp HERE.

Craig Camp (drums, bass) and Clara Hembree (vocals, guitar) and their band Maheekats, started their musical journey in 1999 with a sound that can be defined by its otherworldly vocals, surreal and poetic lyrics, edgy post–punk, dreamy psychedelic, alternative art rock, old school goth and progressive sonic experimentation. Their debut full-length album ‘God Has A Cadillac Too’ was released in 2001 and an EP ‘Songs From The Woods’ in 2016. They’ve created a good handful of singles over the years and in 2018 released them as an EP, simply titled ‘Maheekats Singles’. They’ve had the opportunity to work with Paul DuGré (X, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Weezer), Mario Calire (The Wallflowers, Ozomatli), and Fredo Ortiz (Beastie Boys, Gogol Bordello, The Offspring and legendary producer John Fryer. Their impending new EP ‘Circle of Domion’ is set for release in 2021.
