UK Alternative Rock Band Paper Fishes Presents New Video Off Debut Album ‘Instant Happiness’

The UK alternative rock band Paper Fishes discloses a new video excerpt from their debut album ‘Instant Happiness’, recorded by the acclaimed producer Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno, Editors) at Livingston Studios in Londonl via Rough Trade Records

The video for ‘All Your Lives Are Dreams Played Inside My Head“’ was conceived and shot by Paper Fishes singer Andre Levy during a two-week self-isolation period in the autumn of 2020. Filmed in black and white with a stationary camera, rudimentary set, low angle and cramped frame, the video draws on the song’s introspective lyric, its sense of dislocation, and its interweaving themes of failed expectations, restless nostalgia, lost loves and fraying relationships.

Rooted in Americana but moving easily between lo-fi rock, country, folk, blues, punk, and gypsy-folk, Instant Happiness is tied together by Andre Levy’s distinctive vocals and his
incisive and humorous lyrics, backed-up by the band’s precision and versatility. Instant Happiness was recorded following the death of Levy’s father, as a way of re-establishing his own sense of purpose, and of getting back at his father beyond the grave. It’s an album of contradictions and dramatic tensions: punky but finely crafted, visceral but intricate, irreverent but literate, cathartic but celebratory. It faces undercurrent themes, about death and memory, love and ghosts, revealing itself gradually.

The album also boasts a prestigious collaboration with Leo Abrahams (Florence and the Machine) on lead guitar, Mirek Salmon (Moscow Drug Club) on accordion, Rosa Conrad (Gabby Young and Other Animals) on guest and backing vocals, Jenny Glester (Liverpool Philharmonic) on violin, and Paul Cuddeford (Bob Geldof) on steel guitar.

Paper Fishes’ core lineup comprises singer & songwriter Andre Levy (lead vocal, piano, rhythm guitar), Simon Edwards (Fairground Attraction) on bass, and Aram Zarikian (Seamus Fogerty Band) on drums.

The album Instant Happiness, available on digital stores and on limited edition orange vinyl (via Rough Trade Records, combines lo-fi rock, country, folk, blues, punk, and gypsy-folk in an eclectic style.
