Torched Live Review – My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult And Curse Mackey At Dante’s In Portland

My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult stopped off at Dante’s in Portland recently on their ‘Strange Affairs Tour (Pt 1)’ along with special guest Curse Mackey. Thrill Kill Kult are currently moving across North America in support of their latest release In The House Of Strange Affairs. Curse Mackey joins TKK in the celebration of new releases with his debut solo album entitled Instant Exorcism.

Portlanders were in for a rare sighting as one of their favorite goth rock bands, Deathcharge, opened the show. Starting in 1997, Deathcharge has been taking their dark but sweet time with releasing new music and playing live shows. Don’t let the lack of public luster fool you, however, as they came on stage like seasoned veterans of the dark side with the likes of The Sisters of Mercy, adding a rock edge appeal.

We were also in for a real treat when Curse Mackey hit the stage for his first song of the set, ‘Submerge’, along with Soriah, a performance artist and throat singer, who blessed the show with his shamanic overtones. Mackey, a self proclaimed “shadow figure” of the electronic-industrial underground is currently touring in support of his much anticipated debut solo album Instant Exorcism which was released via Negative Gain on the same day as this particular show on 5/10. His stage performance was a fusion of intense dark dystopian style industrial electronics along with Mackey’s dynamic and hypnotic vocals. The set consisted of songs from his debut album highlighting the first single ‘Somewhat Possessed’. Curse Mackey’s new album Instant Exorcism is currently available for purchase through his bandcamp page.

My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult came on next with their usual anticipated satirical references to Satan, Jesus and sex in their heated song lyrics and fiery stage performance. Groovy Mann (Frankie Nardiello) led the way into debauchery for the evening as TKK belted out their signature electronic barrage of sound with hints of rock/go-go disco.  Their set consisted of a good balance of fan favorites such as, ‘A Daisy Chain 4 Satan’ and ‘The International Sin Set’ along with new songs off their latest release In The House Of Strange Affairs ‘The Chains of Fame’ and ‘Treat Street’.  Their new release is currently available for purchase through Sleazebox Records.
